Open Invitation from Friends of IM=X Pilates Blue Bell

Do you know anyone with ADHD? Want to go to a party supporting research- the ADHD Climbing to a Cure - Mark Seril Fund for ADHD Genetic Research foundation? A friend of IM=X Pilates Blue Bell, Jean Wilson, is hosting just such a party next Saturday, March 28. We have removed her address and phone number to protect her privacy here on the internet, so if you’d like to come party with us just let the studio know. Here’s her email invitation:

Hi Everyone,

As most of you know, I’ve been involved for many years as an advocate in many arenas for children with Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD) which affects both Colleen and Lauren - a disorder that is unusual for girls. I have also been very interested for many years in research in to the causes of ADHD and how can we give both children and adults better lifelong outcomes.  For example, Colleen is the dreamer while Lauren is the “I see, I do” and has no brakes.  Their ADHD presented them with significant stumbling blocks as they attempted not only to learn in a traditional educational environment despite high IQs but also to mature socially.

Their disorders have pulled me in to the ADHD world since Lauren was five years old and I first joined CHADD, a parent support group.  Since then, I’ve been a parent advocate and a speaker at numerous ADHD conferences at Children’s Hospital. I am currently working with a genetic research foundation that benefits ADHD research at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.  This foundation, ADHD Climbing to a Cure - Mark Seril Fund for ADHD Genetic Research, seeks to explore the genetic roots of this disorder and to raise awareness of the impact of this life-long genetic disorder on both children, adults and their parents. It is quite clear that those diagnosed with ADHD can readily see the direct hereditary links to their disorder.

We have decided that the best way to support research in to this disorder and to spread the word on the progress that is occurring in this field every day is to have a party.  The party will be at my house in Villanova on Saturday night, March 28th, 7:30 p.m.  We’ll have appetizers, beverages, desserts, entertainment and lots of fun.  All of this will only cost you $20.  All monies raised will go directly to the ADHD Genetic Research Foundation.  Where else can you find such a deal in today’s economy????

As an added incentive Michael Kaufman will perform songs from his new CD (which will be available for $5 with proceeds going to the foundation as well).  Dr. Jo Elia from Children’s Hospital, my life saver over and over again as well as the girls’ savior, is planning to join us as well.  She is one of the very few researchers on the genetic component of ADHD and her expertise is world renowned. She’ll be happy to answer any questions you might have as well as tell you what she has uncovered in her research - results that are currently being published in research journals worldwide. Mark you calendars and come on over for an evening of music, friends and the opportunity to learn something new!!!

Let me know if you can make it and feel free to bring a friend.  You can purchase tickets at the door or ahead of time by -contacting the studio-. I really hope you can come!!!  It should be a very special evening.

Route 202 Construction Has Begun

PENN-DOT has begun working on Route 202/DeKalb Pike in the area of the Route 476/Northeast Extension overpass. The stretch of highway directly in front of IM=X Pilates Blue Bell is smack in the middle of the construction zone, so be sure to allow some extra time to get to class. One lane is being intermittently closed throughout the day, and traffic is traveling more slowly than usual, so expect delays. ALSO have some extra patience when leaving the parking lot! Other drivers aren’t always known for their own patience, common sense, and ability to remain between the lines.

The Teaser Team is Back!

It’s that time of year again- time to dust off your walking shoes. IM=X Pilates Blue Bell is bringing back the Teaser Team to support the March for Babies. This year’s walk is on April 29, 2009, beginning at the North Penn High School in Lansdale, PA. No, we don’t have to walk back to Blue Bell! The route will take us through 4 miles of Pennsylvania countryside, and a little suburbia. You can walk, stroll, jog or run. You can stick with the group, head off on your own, or take a little break if you need. (Rest stations with water and snacks are provided along the way.) You’ll also be offered your very own Teaser Team apparel- more on that later.

You can also simply support the effort. Every little bit goes a long way to helping the March of Dimes. Click on the banner above to donate online, or bring your donation in to the IM=X Pilates Blue Bell studio (1320 DeKalb Pike, Blue Bell PA). Click on that banner to find options to donate, forward information to a friend, get similar banners to post on your own blog or website or emails, and to walk with the Teaser Team.

Stay tuned for further news of walker-wear, studio competitions, and maybe even a picture from last year’s rockstar group!

German Pancake

A German Pancake

There have been many requests for the German Pancake, discussed by IM=X Pilates Blue Bell client Valerie. Here it is-

large cast iron or ovenproof pan
3 large eggs
1/2 c whole milk
1/2 c all purpose flour
1/4 tsp kosher salt
1/2 tsp vanilla
2 tbsp unsalted butter
2 tbsp lemon juice
1/2 c jam- preferably raspberry, optional
2 tbsp powdered sugar

Set your oven to 400 degrees F.
Whisk eggs, add flour and whisk until smooth.
Add milk, salt, vanilla.
Put butter in pan and heat in the oven until melted.
Pour batter in hot pan, bake 15 minutes until golden and puffy.
Drizzle with lemon juice, spread with jam, and sprinkle with powdered sugar.

Alternatives:
Chocolate Pancake- add about 2 tsp sugar and 2-3 tsp cocoa powder, or until desired light brown color is reached.
Savory Pancake- omit vanilla. Add savory ingredients, such as sauteed bacon, sausage or ham, sauteed vegetables such as mushrooms, onions, artichokes, spinach, tomatoes, etc. Season to taste, with salt, pepper, garlic, etc.

Has anyone tried these? Paula loves them for dinner, evidenced by her cell phone picture taken at 8pm!
