FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

IM=X Pilates Blue Bell Announces Record Donations at Pilates for Pink Events- $1,000 Raised for Breast Cancer Research Foundation

Blue Bell, PA- November 5, 2008- During October, Breast Cancer Awareness Month, IM=X Pilates Blue Bell teamed with Pilates for Pink and Shape Magazine to raise $1,000 for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. IM=X Pilates Blue Bell and its generous community raised this record amount through a combination of Pilates for Pink classes, an in-house competition, t-shirt sales, and a speaker from the ELLE Center for Breast Health at Mercy Suburban Hospital. An 11th hour donation by a very special, anonymous donor brought the total contributions to a round $1,000, the most ever raised at the pilates studio.

IM=X Blue Bell held free Pilates for Pink donation classes on select weekends in October. In addition, a studio-wide contest was devised. Clients competed against each other doing popular exercises, donating for each exercise accomplished. For example, each push-up was worth a $0.01 donation, while the more difficult Teasers were worth $0.25 each. Clients were encouraged to ask friends, family, coworkers and employers to sponsor their efforts. During the 2-week competition, almost 8,000 total repetitions were done- over 2,000 alone were the popular Butt Buster move.

Special t-shirts were sold through the studio blog, promoting Pilates for Pink and IM=X Pilates Blue Bell. Almost $100 in profits from shirt sales was part of the donation total.

Fully half of the $1,000 was raised during the competition. Additional monies were also donated by most participants. One client even raced to her wallet as the donation checks were being sealed in their envelope, to round out the total raised by her fellow pilates partners.

IM=X Blue Bell also hosted Dr. Lori Chapleski, DO, breast surgeon at the ELLE Center for Breast Health. She spoke for over an hour on breast health, facts and myths about breast cancer, and the technology available to image, diagnose and treat diseases.

What a Party

The food, the friends, the margaritas! About 20 people visited the transformed IM=X Pilates Blue Bell studio Tuesday evening for the first ever Happy Hour party, the IM=X Blue Bell Cantina. The pilates machines were moved aside, and decorations brightened up the walls and ceiling. We almost ran out of room on the tables in the cardio room, so many people brought food! Lots of fresh fruit, chips and dips, veggies, and a fantastic hot dip from Karyn were thoroughly enjoyed (and the recipies would be welcomed by many!) And then, dessert. “If it tastes like buttah, that’s because it IS!!”- and, ooh, Kathy R’s Mexican Wedding Cookies were buttery. Jen W brought cupcakes- Margarita cupcakes. Did any of you realize they were vegan? Those dense, moist, absolutely delicious cupcakes made with the drink of the evening were vegan?? Yup!

A giant cheer and thanks from EVERYONE there to Amy, who got us started with her homemade margaritas. Even the beer-and-wine fans enjoyed a glass. We had several donations of tequila, triple sec and mixers that didn’t even get opened, so we’re set for another party!

Early on, the group sat on the floor by the margarita table in a big circle and chatted. As more food arrived, and the crowd swelled, people stood in groups or pulled a few chairs together. We heard quite a few “I don’t know you! We must work out at different times.” Friends caught up with each other, new connections were made, and lots of conversations that normally would get cut short in a pilates class were had in full.

A handful of people paid their “cover charge”- they were asked to describe, in 2 or 3 words, what is IM=X Pilates and what do we do here at IM=X Pilates Blue Bell. Here are a few of the answers we got:

“Classes are fun and challenging”

“Fun Fitness Friends”

“I feel: strong & lean   Instructors are: motivating & personable (& AWESOME) :)”

“Invigorating Strong Sexy    That’s how I feel”

This is great! It’s so exciting to hear what you think and how you feel. Leave a reply or send us an email if you want to contribute- it’s never too late. You can let everyone know what you thought of the party, too!

A very warm thanks to everyone who participated, even those who couldn’t make it. We hoped to create a buzz and get everyone to mingle a little. Thanks to all of you, the first Happy Hour party at IM=X Pilates Blue Bell was a success!

Great Times at the March of Dimes

We want to say a special thank you to everyone who donated, participated, and wished us well. The IM=X Pilates Blue Bell TEASER TEAM raised over $1000! This was a spectacular effort, and you all deserve pats on the back.

8 people from IM=X Pilates Blue Bell, plus one husband, were at the event. You may notice a few new shirts worn by your classmates, because we got red t-shirts made up at the LAST MINUTE thanks to the wonderful Kate Dufresne! We also got ourselves noticed by performing a pre-walk warm-up without a microphone! Another special thanks to Beth Thune for not falling off the wet flatbed truck/stage, and for letting Paula yell in her ear. And of course, thanks to all the walkers from the studio for helping get the crowd involved with the warm-ups!

It really was a fun time, from what we’ve heard from the participants, even in spite of the cool, grey weather. Really, the temperature was just right for walking outside. Thanks again, to everyone.

Happy Earth Day from IM=X Pilates!

Visiting IM=X Pilates Blue Bell is a great way to celebrate Earth Day! We can open the windows so you enjoy the fresh air, you can fill your water bottle at the water cooler so we reduce bottle waste, and we’ll even turn the lights off if you want! Seriously, take a moment to enjoy the day, and we’ll see you on Sunday at the March for Babies walk.

Walk America- March of Dimes

Jim and I were invited to build a team for the Walk America event, held in Landale on April 27, 2008. Just this weekend, our invitation was bumped up to include the opening warm-up for the entire event. Picture it: the two of us, one with a microphone and one as the ‘lovely assistant’ (we welcome input on who should do which task!), standing in front of a thousand people on top of a tractor trailer. Weeee! Let us know if you want to walk with us.
